TIPS
Moving Tips
The following tips
should hopefully take some of the
frustration out of moving.
Get rid of items you don't
need or haven't used in a year
before movers arrive.
Make a list of everything
that needs to be done week by
week up until moving day.
Do not move jewelry,
money, coin collections, etc.
Keep these items in your possession.
Have enough supplies
on hand. Start gathering boxes, tissue paper,
newspaper, strapping tape, box cutter, markers, bubble wrap and
twine.
Pack ahead. Anything you can pack ahead will save you time on
moving day.
Box up your shampoo and extra toothpaste and live out of a travel
cosmetic case
for the last week or two. Pare down cooking utensils and food
supplies to bare
essentials. Wastebaskets can also be packed while you switch to
using plastic
grocery bags (hang them on a cabinet door or door handle to collect
trash.)
It is a good idea
to start changing your address on publications such as
magazines a month before your move. While you are thinking about
it, you may
also want to visit the Post Office and submit a change of address.
While paying bills, fill out the backside about your address change
as not to miss
important information and invoices. Order preprinted address labels
with your
new address as soon as you know it. It makes the change-of-address
process much
easier. If you are moving out of state you might want to consider
gathering
medical records, e-rays and prescription history and school transcripts.
Take inventory of
your belongings before they're packed, in the event you need to
file an insurance claim later. If possible, take pictures or video
tape your
belongings. Record serial numbers of electronic equipment.
Keep a utility log
to check service-transfer dates. If you're moving locally,
leave the power and water on at your old address a few extra days
so you can
go back and clean up after your move.
